Apprenticeship Program

Supporting the Skill Development of Our Industry

Apprenticeship programs are essential to meet the ever-growing demand for skilled workers within the construction industry. As the industry evolves and expands, the need for highly trained, motivated individuals grows alongside it. With ACI’s recent growth, our capabilities have increased significantly- driving a rising demand for skilled tradespeople who are ready to take on new challenges and elevate their careers.

That’s why ACI proudly supports the Apprenticeship Program offered by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Virginia. This program is not only critical to the success of our company but also to the long-term strength of the entire construction industry. It encompasses several trade paths- Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Sheet Metal, and Fire Protection.

For years, we have partnered with ABC-VA to help young individuals continue to learn and be able to turn their passions into a rewarding career. To maintain the success of these programs, we are devoted to making these opportunities as affordable and accessible as possible. At ACI, anyone can sign up, and their first-year tuition is paid for by ACI, then reimbursed by the employee.

This past July, we were thrilled to host our annual Apprenticeship signing day at Top Golf. It was a fun afternoon where all interested individuals gathered to connect with knowledgeable advisors, enjoy food, and participate in a raffle for tools. This year’s event welcomed approximately 90 new and returning apprentices- a solid reflection of the growing interest and excitement around trade careers.

ACI is truly excited to support these dedicated individuals as they take this pivotal step in creating a bright future. At ACI, we don’t just count people, we make people count. Supporting programs such as ABC-VA’s apprenticeship initiative is a natural extension of our values and our commitment to building opportunities for both our employees and the communities we serve.

Finding the Right Fit

Veronica Johnson's Journey with Atlantic

At Atlantic growth isn’t just encouraged, it’s built into our culture. For one team member, that meant starting as an Administrative Assistant and discovering her passion through hands-on experience and the flexibility to move between departments. With each new opportunity, Veronica Johnson took her career by the horns, broadened her knowledge, and built a path she’s proud of — proving that when opportunity meets initiative there is no limit to how far you can go at Atlantic.

Before joining the Atlantic family, Veronica worked within the Service/Special Projects group at Colonial Webb. During her time there, she held several positions but soon realized that the path ahead was narrow, with very few opportunities for advancement. Determined to grow, she made the bold decision to join Atlantic, stepping into the role of Administrative Assistant with the Service Electrical Group.

As Atlantic continued to expand, the company opened a new Electrical Construction department — and with it came an exciting opportunity for Veronica. Always ready for a challenge, her dedication and ability to take on added responsibility propelled her into the role of Project Engineer, marking the next major step in her career journey.

After a few years in her Project Engineering role, an opportunity arose within the Mechanical/Plumbing department, and Veronica jumped at the chance! Atlantic was looking for a Project Engineer to take on additional responsibilities and step up for the good of the company. That sounded just like Veronica, and she did exactly that. She dove headfirst into this unfamiliar area and grew exponentially. Having experience across multiple disciplines has only added to the value she brings to the company.

At Atlantic, when you invest in the company, the company invests in you — and Veronica’s journey is proof of that! Over the next four years, she worked on four major projects in Charlottesville and one in Farmville, applying her knowledge and gaining new insights with each one. Her dedication and expertise didn’t go unnoticed. She was promoted to Project Manager, taking on her first data center project — another milestone in a career built on hard work, adaptability, and taking initiative with her future.

Having a career full of diverse experiences, Veronica knows what it takes to succeed in an ever-changing industry. Her advice is to, “Be patient. Set a goal and follow it through. There will be days when things don’t always go your way. Accept that. Understand and learn from the lows as well as celebrating the highs. Work hard to obtain the goals that you want. Be proud to be a part of the company you work for.” Veronica’s path is proof that Atlantic is more than a workplace; it’s a place where careers are built and people thrive.

Confidential Multi-Building Campus in Chesterfield County

Massive 795,000 SF Facility

This project supports a large-scale, multi-building manufacturing campus located in Chesterfield County, totaling 795,000 square feet within the current scope of work. The campus consists of five distinct buildings ranging from one to five stories and supports manufacturing, material handling, warehousing, and operational support functions. The project is being delivered as a joint venture between Hourigan and Gray. ACI is responsible for the installation of mechanical and plumbing systems serving five buildings across the campus, including the Molding, Handling, Corridor, High Bay Warehouse, and Gate House facilities. In addition, ACI is performing the electrical scope for the High Bay Warehouse. The project represents an $82 million construction effort and is executed with dedicated teams assigned to individual buildings while maintaining continuous coordination to support the success of the overall campus-wide program.

The project includes miles of modular, large-diameter piping skids feeding the campus from a central utility plant, along with a compressed air system distributing air to end-user equipment across the site. Atlantic designed multiple mechanical pipe racking systems throughout the buildings, which were later used as a basis for other mechanical contractors working on adjacent facilities. The Molding building serves as the core of the manufacturing operation and requires extensive piping and sheet metal to support production equipment. The Handling building supports raw material intake, storage, and product transfer, while the Corridor facilitates movement between production and handling areas. The High Bay Warehouse is a single-story, fully automated structure standing 100 feet tall and housing a complex racking system for finished goods. The Gate House functions as the primary check-in point for all incoming and outgoing freight.

– Five buildings ranging from one to five floors
– 35 air handling units
– 63 fan coil units
– Complex chilled water filtration system
– Project expected to bring approximately 1,700 jobs to the region
